Delhi's voter roll processing crawls, thousands await inclusion decisions
Delhi authorities have processed barely a fraction of the 4.5 lakh applications filed for inclusion in the electoral roll, with nearly 2.39 lakh submissions from first-time applicants and those seeking re-registration.

New Delhi — The pace of voter roll processing in Delhi has emerged as a significant concern, with official data revealing that only 0.27 percent of 4.5 lakh pending applications have been disposed of thus far.
The bulk of applications — approximately 2.39 lakh — were filed following publication of the draft electoral roll, comprising first-time applicants and those applying for re-inclusion after being dropped or deleted from previous rolls.
The slow disposal rate underscores mounting pressure on electoral authorities to accelerate their review processes ahead of elections. Applicants face extended wait periods as their cases remain stuck in administrative backlogs, with no clear timeline for resolution of the outstanding applications.
Electoral officials have attributed the delays to the volume of applications and resource constraints within their offices. The situation has prompted concerns from voter advocacy groups about potential disenfranchisement of eligible citizens due to procedural bottlenecks.
Authorities have been urged to streamline approval mechanisms and deploy additional staff to expedite the processing of pending applications, ensuring that eligible voters are not denied their electoral rights due to administrative delays.
