Delhi shuts internet around Jantar Mantar for 24 hours from Friday evening

Internet services across Delhi will be suspended in a defined zone around Jantar Mantar from 10 pm Friday for the next 24 hours, according to an order issued by city authorities. The shutdown will cover all areas within a 4-kilometre radius of the historic monument, a focal point for public demonstrations and protests in the heart of New Delhi.

The restriction is targeted and will not affect internet connectivity in other parts of the national capital. Residents and businesses outside the demarcated zone will continue to have uninterrupted access to broadband and mobile data services during the period.

The shutdown encompasses mobile and fixed-line internet services within the restricted perimeter. Authorities typically impose such measures to manage public order during anticipated large gatherings or demonstrations in sensitive areas.

Jantar Mantar has been a significant venue for civil society protests and public assemblies, making it a frequent flashpoint for administrative action. The surrounding area hosts government offices, media headquarters, and several heritage sites that experience regular foot traffic.
