Delhi survey finds only 3 unsafe PG buildings among 1,355 inspected

The Delhi Municipal Corporation has completed an extensive survey of paying guest (PG) buildings across the capital, examining 1,355 properties to assess their structural safety and habitability standards. The inspection, part of intensified safety protocols in the residential sector, found only three buildings classified as dangerous, housing approximately 69 residents combined.

The survey results indicate relatively low levels of critical structural defects across Delhi's PG sector. In addition to the three unsafe buildings, inspectors identified nine properties requiring major repairs and 39 buildings needing minor maintenance work. The findings suggest most PG facilities meet basic safety requirements, though repair work remains necessary in a subset of properties.

The comprehensive audit was initiated following increased scrutiny of residential safety standards in the capital. Authorities have implemented stricter inspection protocols and enforcement measures to prevent accidents and ensure compliance with building codes across the PG accommodation sector, which houses thousands of students and working professionals throughout Delhi.

The municipal corporation plans to monitor the properties identified for repairs, ensuring owners undertake necessary remedial work within stipulated timeframes. Authorities have not specified deadlines for repairs but indicated that buildings classified as dangerous will face enforcement action to relocate residents and facilitate structural interventions.
