Delhi survey flags four PGs as structurally unsafe after fatal building collapse

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has completed a survey of 2,453 paying guest (PG) establishments across the capital after a recent building-related disaster in the Satyam Niketan area claimed lives and prompted urgent safety reviews. The inspection revealed alarming structural deficiencies in several facilities commonly housing students and migrant workers. Four PG buildings have been classified as hazardous and immediately flagged for action, while an additional 85 properties have been identified as structurally compromised and requiring urgent assessment or remedial work. The findings underscore persistent safety concerns in Delhi's informal rental accommodation sector, where many buildings lack adequate maintenance and regulatory oversight. The survey represents one of the largest inspection drives of its kind and comes amid growing pressure on authorities to strengthen building safety standards across the city. The MCD has not yet announced specific enforcement measures, though the identification of high-risk properties is expected to prompt immediate inspections and potential evacuation orders where necessary.
