Delhi tightens security ahead of major opposition protest on October 10

Delhi authorities have escalated security preparations ahead of a major opposition party protest planned for October 10, restricting movement across the capital and disrupting transportation networks. Police denied the demonstration permit for Jantar Mantar, citing delayed permit applications and alleged violations during previous protests in the area. New Delhi has been placed under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Section 163, which empowers authorities to restrict public gatherings. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has received requests to close gates at 57 metro stations, with a decision on the proposal still pending. Over 5,000 rail passengers were unable to board trains, with several services cancelled as a precautionary measure. Border Security Force personnel have been deployed at the Chilla border. Opposition leaders are reportedly preparing to submit a memorandum to the President regarding their concerns, intensifying pressure on the government even as security forces remain on high alert across the national capital.
