Delhi to enforce stricter vehicle emission norms from November 1

Delhi will implement stringent vehicle emission standards beginning November 1, marking a significant shift in the city's traffic and pollution control measures. The new regulation restricts entry of vehicles that do not meet BS6 (Bharat Stage 6) emission norms, aiming to improve air quality in the national capital.

The Delhi Traffic Police has announced the enforcement details of the regulation, which will apply to all four-wheeled vehicles entering the city limits. Vehicles powered by compressed natural gas (CNG) and all-electric vehicles remain exempt from the restrictions, as do those certified to meet BS6 standards, the highest emission standards currently mandated in India.

The move aligns with India's broader commitment to stricter environmental regulations and follows similar measures implemented in major metropolitan areas. Commuters and commercial vehicle operators relying on older diesel or petrol vehicles not meeting BS6 standards will need to transition to compliant alternatives or face potential penalties.

Authorities have advised residents and regular travelers to verify their vehicle's emission certification status ahead of the implementation date. The regulation is expected to encourage faster adoption of cleaner vehicle technologies across the region.
