Delhi to overhaul 3,575 bus stops with smart technology and safety features

Delhi's transport authority is undertaking a comprehensive redevelopment programme covering 3,575 bus stops across the city, marking one of the largest passenger infrastructure upgrades in the capital's public transit history. The Delhi Transport Infrastructure Development Corporation (DTIDC) is spearheading the initiative, which seeks to modernize aging terminals and improve accessibility for the city's commuters.

The redeveloped facilities will feature digital information displays providing real-time route maps and bus tracking systems, enabling passengers to monitor vehicle arrivals and plan journeys more effectively. Each bus stop will be equipped with LED lighting to enhance visibility and safety, particularly during evening hours, addressing longstanding concerns about commuter security at transit points.

Beyond digital amenities, the project incorporates passenger safety infrastructure including panic alarms at each stop, allowing commuters to seek immediate assistance when required. Additional amenities planned include improved seating arrangements and weather protection, intended to make the commuting experience more comfortable across seasons.

The ₹650-crore investment reflects Delhi's commitment to modernizing its public transportation network as the city grapples with rising commuter volumes and aging infrastructure. Officials say the phased implementation of the bus stop redevelopment will be completed over the coming years, transforming the everyday commuting experience for thousands of Delhi residents who depend on bus services daily.
