Delhi traders seek Congress rally postponement, cite ₹10,000 crore loss risk

Delhi's trading community has expressed deep concern over a scheduled Congress rally planned for November 1, with industry representatives citing potential losses exceeding ₹10,000 crore if the event proceeds as planned.

The Confederation of Trade and Industry (CTI) has formally urged the Congress party to postpone the demonstration, pointing to significant economic disruption caused by previous protests held at Jantar Mantar in recent days. Traders reported substantial losses during those earlier demonstrations, which disrupted normal commercial activities across central Delhi.

The CTI warned that allowing another large-scale rally in the congested commercial district would further strain already-stressed businesses, with road closures and security measures likely to impede normal trade operations. Industry representatives emphasized that the cumulative economic impact of repeated protests in key business zones poses a serious threat to the region's commercial viability.

The Congress party has not yet responded to the industry body's request. The issue highlights the ongoing tension between political expression and commercial interests in Delhi's densely-populated central business areas, where large demonstrations frequently disrupt retail and wholesale trading activities.

With the planned rally less than two weeks away, traders have urged both the Congress leadership and Delhi authorities to explore alternative venues or dates that would minimize disruption to the capital's business community.
