Delhi traders urge Gandhi to protect heritage businesses amid rally disruptions

Brijesh Goyal, chairman of the Confederation of Trade and Industry (CTI), has raised concerns about the impact of political rallies on Delhi's commercial establishments, particularly heritage businesses. In an appeal to Gandhi, Goyal highlighted what he described as an inconsistency between the messaging of the Bharat Jodo Yatra and its ground-level effects on traders.

"While the Yatra speaks of opening shops of love and compassion in the marketplace of politics, our 300-year-old shops of love in Delhi are being forced to shut down due to rally-related disruptions," Goyal stated, underscoring the economic hardship faced by long-established merchants.

The CTI chairman's comments reflect broader concerns among Delhi's business community about the regulatory and logistical challenges posed by large-scale political events. The traders have sought intervention to balance political activities with the operational needs of commercial establishments that form the backbone of the city's economy.

The appeal comes as Gandhi's cross-country march continues to garner political attention, with the leader positioning it as a message of national unity and social cohesion. However, the traders' grievances suggest a need to address the collateral impact of such large-scale political mobilization on local businesses and livelihoods.
