Delhi Traffic Police demand redesign of Barapullah Phase-III merger point
Traffic authorities have asked the Public Works Department to reconfigure the junction where the Barapullah Phase-III Flyover connects with the existing corridor, citing persistent congestion issues at the critical merge point.

Delhi's Traffic Police have escalated concerns over mounting gridlock at the Barapullah Phase-III Flyover by formally requesting the Public Works Department to redesign the merger point where the new infrastructure connects with the existing corridor.
The traffic bottleneck at this critical junction has emerged as a significant challenge since the flyover's commissioning, with congestion regularly disrupting traffic flow across one of the capital's key arterial routes. The merger point's current configuration has proven inadequate in handling the volume of vehicles transitioning between the new flyover and the existing road network.
Traffic Police officials have identified structural and design elements at the connection point as contributing factors to the congestion. The merger's geometry and traffic signal timing have been flagged as areas requiring immediate attention to improve vehicular movement and safety.
The PWD, which oversees the project, is expected to evaluate the Police's recommendations and determine whether modifications can be implemented to alleviate the persistent traffic issues. Such redesigns typically involve adjustments to lane configurations, traffic management systems, or junction geometry to optimize traffic distribution.
The Barapullah Phase-III project forms part of Delhi's ongoing efforts to enhance road infrastructure and reduce congestion on major corridors. However, the gridlock at the merger point has underscored challenges in integrating new infrastructure with existing road networks in the densely populated capital region.
