Delhi University has introduced a major relaxation in its academic promotion criteria for undergraduate students entering in the 2025-2026 academic year. The university announced that students will receive a one-time waiver from the mandatory 28-credit completion requirement, a condition previously enforced strictly for academic progression.
Under the revised framework, students will not be held back from promotion if they fail to complete the full 28 credits out of the total 44 credits required, provided this is the sole reason for their shortfall. The modification represents a significant shift in the institution's approach to student progression and retention.
The decision comes as part of Delhi University's broader effort to support student welfare and reduce academic barriers. The exemption is applicable specifically to the incoming batch and marks a departure from the university's traditional rigid credit completion requirements.
University officials indicated that the measure aims to provide students with greater flexibility while maintaining academic standards through alternative assessment mechanisms. The policy change reflects growing recognition among educational institutions of the need to balance stringent academic requirements with student support during their university tenure.
