Democrat Josh Turek wins Iowa Senate seat in upset over House Republican

Josh Turek's victory in the Iowa state Senate race dealt a notable setback to Republicans, who saw one of their U.S. House representatives lose her bid for higher office. Hinson, who had represented her district in Congress, mounted a challenge to Turek but fell short in the election.

The outcome underscores the shifting political dynamics in Iowa, where Democrats have sought to rebuild their legislative presence. Turek's win adds to the party's efforts to gain ground in state-level races across the upper Midwest.

Hinson's loss in the state Senate race marks a departure from her congressional tenure and reflects the different electoral dynamics between federal and state-level contests. The result may influence broader Republican strategies in the region as political parties prepare for upcoming election cycles.
