Demolition of Chander Kunj Army flats delayed as AWHO awaits Delhi clearance
The handover of Chander Kunj Army residential complex for demolition has stalled after representatives from the Army Welfare Housing Organisation failed to appear for scheduled proceedings. The AWHO has cited pending authorisation from its Delhi headquarters as the reason for the delay.

The demolition process for Chander Kunj Army flats has hit a procedural roadblock as officials from the Army Welfare Housing Organisation (AWHO) did not attend a scheduled handover meeting with district administration officials. The absence has delayed the formal transfer of the residential complex, which was earmarked for demolition as part of planned redevelopment in the area.
According to reports, the AWHO informed district authorities that it is currently awaiting authorisation from its headquarters in New Delhi before the property can be formally handed over for demolition. This centralised approval requirement has become the primary obstacle to proceeding with the next phase of the project.
District officials expressed concern over the delay, as similar bureaucratic bottlenecks have previously affected real estate and infrastructure projects in the region. The timing of the Delhi clearance remains uncertain, and no fresh date has been announced for the handover proceedings.
The Chander Kunj residential complex, which houses military personnel and their families, has been identified for redevelopment to accommodate modern housing standards. The project's timeline now hinges on the expedited processing of authorisation at the AWHO's Delhi office. Stakeholders await further communication from the defence organisation regarding when the handover process can resume.
