Dengue death toll climbs as hospitalizations surge past 1,900

Health authorities confirmed nine additional dengue-related fatalities on Wednesday, pushing the mounting toll from the seasonal outbreak that has gripped Bangladesh in recent weeks. The deaths coincided with 1,982 new hospital admissions within a 24-hour period, indicating sustained transmission of the mosquito-borne virus across multiple regions.

The dengue situation has intensified significantly, straining healthcare facilities nationwide as temperatures remain conducive to mosquito breeding. Medical teams continue to manage overwhelming patient volumes, with hospitals reporting consistently high admission rates week after week.

Health officials have urged residents to take precautionary measures, including dengue vector control activities and prompt medical consultation for suspected cases. The primary symptoms of dengue include high fever, severe headache, joint pain, and rash, which typically appear three to fourteen days after infection.

Authorities have advised the public to eliminate standing water around homes and communities, as stagnant water serves as breeding grounds for Aedes mosquitoes responsible for dengue transmission. Residents are also encouraged to use insect repellent and wear protective clothing, particularly during peak mosquito activity hours in early morning and late afternoon.
