Dengue deaths surge in Camarines Sur as cases exceed 1,200

LEGAZPI CITY — Eighteen fatalities from dengue have been reported in Camarines Sur, with health officials confirming 1,233 cases of the mosquito-borne illness from January through September 24, Governor Luis Raymund "LRay" Villafuerte announced Sunday.
The death toll underscores the scale of the dengue outbreak affecting the Bicol region province. Villafuerte said the provincial government has ramped up prevention measures, epidemiological surveillance, and medical response capabilities in response to the rising caseload.
Efforts are being concentrated in areas experiencing increased transmission, according to the governor. The province has mobilized resources to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and boost community awareness campaigns aimed at reducing dengue infections.
Dengue, transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes, remains a significant public health concern across the Philippines, particularly during the rainy season when mosquito populations surge.
