Dengue outbreak in Zamboanga City exceeds 2,400 cases

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Health authorities in Zamboanga City are grappling with a significant dengue outbreak as confirmed cases surpassed 2,400 through late August. The Zamboanga City Health Office documented 2,413 dengue infections from January 1 through August 29, marking a concerning surge in mosquito-borne disease transmission across the major Mindanao city.
The pace of infections has accelerated in recent weeks, with 80 new cases identified during morbidity week 34, spanning August 23–29. This uptick underscores the intensifying public health threat posed by the dengue virus in the region during the current transmission season.
The death toll from the outbreak currently stands at 17 fatalities. The sustained rise in dengue cases has prompted health authorities to intensify surveillance, prevention, and response measures. Officials are urging residents to implement mosquito control measures and seek immediate medical attention if they develop symptoms including high fever, severe headache, joint and muscle pain, and rash.
