LUCENA CITY — The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) announced a temporary suspension of climbing activities at Mt. Pico de Loro, effective from August 21 through September 12, to conduct comprehensive cleanup and rehabilitation work on the mountain.
The three-week closure was declared following damage sustained by the hiking destination during recent typhoons and the southwest monsoon season, commonly referred to locally as "habagat." The DENR issued a public advisory on Thursday outlining the temporary restrictions.
During the suspension period, DENR personnel and contractors will undertake repairs to trails, facilities, and other infrastructure damaged by severe weather conditions. The work is intended to ensure the mountain remains safe for visitors once hiking activities resume.
Mt. Pico de Loro, located in Quezon province, is one of the region's popular hiking destinations, attracting outdoor enthusiasts throughout the year. The DENR said the temporary closure is necessary to restore the mountain's condition and prevent potential safety hazards for future visitors.
