MANILA — The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has activated regional offices, specialized bureaus and field units across the country to bolster preparedness and mitigation efforts ahead of an intensifying El Niño weather pattern. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration has cautioned that the current climate event may escalate into a very strong phenomenon before December and potentially persist into the coming year.

The DENR's coordinated response involves assessments of vulnerable communities, water resource management planning, and coordination with local government units to ensure adequate protection and response capabilities. The mobilization reflects growing concern over El Niño's potential impact on agriculture, water supplies, and overall economic activity across the archipelago.

Officials have directed personnel to prioritize risk mapping in flood-prone and drought-susceptible areas while establishing contingency protocols for disaster response. The agency is also coordinating with other government departments to develop comprehensive strategies addressing potential impacts to food security, public health, and infrastructure during the extended dry season.

Communities in vulnerable regions have been advised to prepare water storage systems, conduct maintenance of drainage infrastructure, and review evacuation plans. The DENR emphasized that early action and community awareness remain critical components of the national El Niño response strategy.
