CALAPAN CITY — The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) plans to distribute seized timber stocks to residents of Occidental Mindoro affected by recent severe weather, according to a department official.
Families in Barangay Sta. Lucia in Sablayan will be among the first beneficiaries to receive lumber for reconstruction and repair efforts. The distribution initiative aims to assist homeowners whose dwellings were damaged during the recent storm season and ongoing southwest monsoon conditions.
The DENR has accumulated the confiscated lumber through enforcement operations against illegal logging. Rather than retain the seized material, the agency has decided to redirect it toward disaster relief efforts, providing practical assistance to affected communities while putting confiscated resources to humanitarian use.
Details regarding the distribution schedule, quantity of materials per beneficiary household, and additional barrios set to receive assistance are expected to be announced as the program proceeds.
