DepEd completes 391 disaster-resilient school buildings nationwide

MANILA — The Department of Education has completed 391 prefabricated modular school buildings designed to withstand severe weather and seismic activity, marking a significant advancement in the nation's push to create more resilient educational infrastructure.

The structures represent a substantial efficiency gain in school construction, with the modular design allowing buildings to be completed in weeks rather than the years typically required for conventional construction methods. This accelerated timeline has enabled DepEd to rapidly expand classroom capacity across the archipelago while incorporating disaster-resistant engineering standards.

Currently, 150 additional modular school buildings are in various stages of construction. The prefabricated units are engineered to meet structural standards that allow them to withstand powerful typhoons and strong earthquakes, addressing critical vulnerabilities in school facilities throughout the Philippines, which frequently experiences severe weather events and seismic activity.

The initiative reflects DepEd's broader infrastructure modernization efforts aimed at providing safer learning environments for students while improving construction efficiency. Officials have emphasized that the modular approach not only reduces construction timelines but also ensures consistent quality control across all units produced.
