DepEd seeks P2.6 billion for school repairs after monsoon damage
The Department of Education has identified P2.604 billion in reconstruction costs needed to repair schools damaged by the enhanced southwest monsoon that swept through the Philippines. The funding request covers nearly 900 educational facilities affected by the recent heavy rains.

The Department of Education disclosed Monday that extensive damage from the enhanced southwest monsoon has necessitated a substantial financial outlay to restore the country's school infrastructure. The agency estimated P2.604 billion will be required to rebuild and repair affected educational facilities nationwide.
According to DepEd's damage assessment, P2.245 billion of the total budget is earmarked for the reconstruction of 898 schools damaged during the weather event. The remaining P359 million addresses repairs to classrooms and other school structures impacted by the heavy downpours.
The southwest monsoon brought significant rainfall across multiple regions, causing widespread damage to school buildings and learning spaces. DepEd has documented the extent of the destruction and developed cost estimates to guide reconstruction and repair efforts.
The education agency's funding request represents a critical step toward restoring normal classroom operations and ensuring students can safely return to their learning environments. Education officials have begun coordinating with relevant government agencies and other stakeholders to mobilize resources for the rehabilitation program.
