Detention does not equal guilt, says Umno official

Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the principle of presumption of innocence remains a cornerstone that must be upheld, regardless of circumstances.

"We must respect the legal principle that a person is not guilty simply because they have been detained or charged," the Umno figure stated, underscoring the importance of due process.

However, Asyraf Wajdi made clear that the party's commitment to the rule of law does not extend to protecting members or leaders found culpable of wrongdoing. "Umno will not defend or shield any member or leader from accountability if they are found to have committed misconduct," he said.
