Claude P. Moore of Detroit has achieved an unusual distinction by constructing the world's heaviest rubber band ball, according to Guinness World Records. The ambitious project, which commenced in 2015 with just two rubber bands, has grown into a spherical mass weighing 11,578 pounds, surpassing the previous record that had stood for 11 years.
Moore's methodical approach to the project involved gradually accumulating and rolling rubber bands over more than a decade. The scale of the undertaking became evident as the ball expanded in size and weight, eventually requiring significant logistical coordination to handle and transport the unwieldy creation.
The record-breaking achievement was made possible with assistance from Moore's network of friends and family members, who lent their support throughout the extended project. Their contributions proved essential in managing the physical demands of maintaining and moving the increasingly massive sphere.
Ginness World Records officially confirmed Moore's record during a public ceremony in August 2026, validating the considerable effort invested in the endeavour. The verification process included measuring and weighing the rubber band ball to ensure it met the organization's stringent criteria for record recognition.
