DGCA conducts final airline audits ahead of FAA safety reassessment

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation is conducting comprehensive audits of airlines operating in Indian airspace ahead of a critical evaluation by the US aviation authority. The final round of inspections is being carried out this week to ensure all operators meet international safety standards before the FAA's scheduled reassessment visit.

The US Federal Aviation Administration has scheduled its audit for November 16-20, as part of a periodic review of India's aviation safety oversight framework. These assessments are instrumental in determining the country's compliance rating under the International Civil Aviation Organization's standards and directly impact Indian carriers' ability to operate international routes, particularly services to the United States.

Regulatory officials are preparing comprehensive responses to approximately 200 questions raised by the FAA, covering various aspects of aviation safety management, infrastructure, training protocols, and enforcement mechanisms. The DGCA's pre-audit compliance drives are designed to address any potential gaps that could be flagged during the formal assessment.

India's aviation safety record has been a focus area for international regulators in recent years. The FAA reassessment will evaluate the DGCA's effectiveness in monitoring and enforcing safety standards across the country's growing aviation sector, which has expanded significantly in terms of both fleet size and passenger traffic.
