DGCA warned of Tecnam safety risks before Kanpur crash
India's aviation regulator had issued multiple safety alerts concerning Tecnam training aircraft prior to an August crash that killed two pilots in Uttar Pradesh. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation flagged concerns over the twin-engine aircraft model used widely by Indian flying schools.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) had alerted flying training organisations (FTOs) to safety issues with Tecnam aircraft on at least two occasions, with the most recent advisory issued more than a month before a Tecnam P2006T crashed in Kanpur on August 27, killing a trainee pilot and flight instructor.
According to official communications, the DGCA's latest safety recommendations, dated July 10, 2026, were based on alerts issued by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) following an earlier Tecnam crash. That incident occurred on May 12, 2022, when a twin-engine P2006T operated by FSTC Flying School Pvt Ltd crashed near Bhiwani in Haryana.
The regulator directed FTOs to implement the safety recommendations with immediate effect. Among the guidance provided, the DGCA advised against prolonged parking of Tecnam aircraft on apron and tarmac areas, according to the communications reviewed.
Tecnam aircraft are among the primary training platforms used by Indian flying schools for ab-initio pilot training. The repeated DGCA alerts underscore ongoing concerns about the safety profile of the aircraft type within India's civil aviation sector.
