Dhiraj Bommadevara etched his name into Asian Games history by setting a new qualification record in recurve archery at the continental championships. The Indian archer, currently ranked fourth globally, finished with a total score of 698 points out of a possible 720, cementing his position as the top seed heading into the knockout stages.
Bommadevara's performance highlighted a dramatic improvement in the latter stages of his qualification round. He accumulated 348 points across his opening 36 arrows before showcasing remarkable precision in the final 36, conceding just 10 points to add 350 to his tally.
India's archery contingent made a strong showing across the team events, securing the silver medal position in the team competition. The result underscores the nation's growing strength in the sport at the continental level, with Bommadevara leading the charge through his record-setting performance.
