Dickwella dropped; Bandara handed maiden Test call for Pakistan series

Sri Lanka's national selectors have ended Niroshan Dickwella's brief international return, replacing him with 22-year-old wicketkeeper Anjala Bandara for the upcoming two-match Test series against Pakistan.

The Sri Lankan cricket board has made a significant change to its wicketkeeping position, moving away from Dickwella after his recent recall proved unsuccessful. Bandara, who comes into the squad with domestic cricket experience, will assume primary wicketkeeping responsibilities for the Test matches against Pakistan.

Dickwella's tenure in the national side has been marked by considerable turbulence. His recall earlier this year represented a comeback attempt after spending more than three years away from Test cricket, but the experiment has not yielded the desired results.

At 22 years old, Bandara represents a youth-oriented approach to the position. The young wicketkeeper will face the challenging task of making an immediate impact in international cricket against a formidable Pakistani bowling attack.

The selection marks a significant moment in Sri Lankan cricket, with the board evidently prioritizing fresh talent in a crucial position as the team prepares for an important bilateral series. Bandara's maiden Test call-up comes at a pivotal juncture for the national team's development.
