Safety advocates across the city have flagged serious concerns about digital master boards erected at major traffic junctions, warning that the large displays are creating blind spots and restricting pedestrian access on sidewalks. The issue has drawn attention from multiple stakeholders, including traffic management officials, resident welfare associations and non-governmental organizations focused on urban safety.
Traffic police have reported that the billboards obstruct critical sightlines for both motorists and pedestrians, potentially increasing accident risks at already congested intersections. Residents' groups have complained that the structures encroach on pedestrian pathways, forcing foot traffic into vehicular lanes or blocking thoroughfares entirely in some locations.
NGOs working on urban accessibility issues have emphasized the particular hardship caused to elderly citizens, persons with disabilities and children navigating these junctions. The obstructed pedestrian routes effectively deny safe passage through areas that see high volumes of foot traffic during peak hours.
The municipal corporation has acknowledged the concerns raised by traffic authorities and civil society groups. Officials stated that remedial measures would be undertaken to address the safety issues, including removing certain boards or relocating them to positions that do not compromise visibility or pedestrian movement. However, specific timelines for implementation have not yet been announced.
