Digital ticketing gains traction among Dasara travellers at Mysuru station

The Mysuru division of South Western Railway has reported a significant uptake in digital ticketing during the recent Dasara travel season, with 53.4% of outbound passengers using self-service channels instead of traditional ticket counters.

Passengers travelling from Mysuru station increasingly turned to Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs) and the Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) mobile application for their journey bookings. The adoption of these digital platforms has become a key strategy for Indian Railways to manage passenger flows during peak travel periods.

The move towards cashless and contactless ticketing aligns with broader digital transformation initiatives across India's rail network. By reducing dependence on manual ticket sales windows, the railways aim to minimise queuing and improve passenger experience during high-traffic festival seasons.

Railway officials attribute the growing preference for digital options to improved mobile application accessibility and increasing smartphone penetration across the region. The data from Mysuru station suggests that digital ticketing infrastructure, when adequately promoted, can successfully serve a majority of passengers seeking rail travel.
