MANILA—Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla said authorities have been tracking reports that gambling tycoon Charlie "Atong" Ang may have departed the country through irregular means since last year.
Remulla revealed the information on Tuesday, explaining that the disclosure came after an extended verification period. "The information has been under our analysis for one year," the DILG chief told media outlets.
The statement marks a significant development in the case involving the high-profile businessman, whose movements have drawn intense scrutiny from authorities. The one-year delay in announcing the findings underscores the thoroughness of the investigation process, according to Remulla.
The DILG did not provide additional specifics regarding the circumstances of Ang's reported departure or the investigation's current status. Further details on the case remain undisclosed as authorities continue their work.
