DINAGAT ISLANDS — A provincial representative has cast her vote against the government's P7.2 trillion General Appropriations Act for 2027, expressing alarm over the budget's priorities and allocation framework.

Rep. Arlene "Kaka" Bag-ao of Dinagat Islands criticized the spending proposal during congressional deliberations, contending that it diverts resources toward debt servicing and unallocated funds at the expense of critical public programs.

The legislator highlighted gaps in the budget's approach to food security and social services, arguing that the plan does not adequately address the needs of ordinary Filipinos. She raised her concerns during a privilege speech before the chamber, underscoring the disconnect between the proposed allocations and pressing national priorities.

The vote reflects ongoing legislative debate over government spending priorities as lawmakers weigh competing demands for infrastructure, social programs, and fiscal management in the coming fiscal year.
