ILOILO CITY — The Dinagyang Festival's principal tribes competition will make a homecoming to Iloilo City's downtown district in January 2027, marking a shift in the venue for the celebrated cultural event.
The Iloilo Festivals Foundation Inc. (IFFI) disclosed its preliminary plans during a stakeholder consultation on Friday, presenting a framework that includes five designated judging areas throughout the downtown zone. The redesigned format will also feature an illuminated street parade as a centerpiece attraction.
During the consultative meeting, organizers outlined proposed competition routes and scheduling details with festival participants and local authorities. The move reflects efforts to reconnect the tribes competition with its traditional urban setting after previous editions were held in alternative locations.
The Dinagyang Festival, held annually to celebrate the Ati-Atihan cultural roots of Panay Island, draws thousands of participants and spectators who witness indigenous-inspired tribal performances and street pageantry. The downtown relocation is expected to enhance accessibility for both participants and visitors while revitalizing the historic commercial district during the festival period.
