Diplomacy, not military force, key to resolving global crises: Jaishankar

India has underscored the centrality of diplomacy in resolving international disputes, with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar warning against reliance on military interventions to tackle global crises. Addressing the opening plenary of the G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting hosted by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Atlanta, Jaishankar stressed that diplomatic engagement must be given precedence as countries grapple with interconnected challenges spanning multiple regions.

Jaishankar's remarks carry particular significance given the backdrop of active conflicts worldwide, including the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war and escalating tensions in West Asia. His call for diplomacy-first approaches reflects India's longstanding advocacy for multilateralism and dialogue-based conflict resolution within international forums.

Beyond conflict resolution, the Indian minister flagged emerging maritime security concerns, particularly the rising threat of attacks on seafarers operating in international waters. He emphasised the importance of preserving freedom of navigation and halting such attacks through mechanisms rooted in international maritime law, specifically the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

Jaishankar's intervention at the G20 platform underscores India's commitment to addressing both traditional security challenges and transnational issues through structured multilateral engagement rather than unilateral military action.
