Direct Batam-Penang air link expected to drive tourism and medical travel

GEORGE TOWN — Low-cost carrier Batik Air is set to launch direct flights connecting Batam and Penang from October 18, marking a new transport corridor between two major Southeast Asian hubs. The route is expected to facilitate passenger movement between Indonesia's industrial island and Malaysia's northern state, benefiting both leisure and business travel sectors.

Penang state officials have welcomed the development, noting that enhanced air connectivity aligns with efforts to strengthen the region's tourism appeal.
