MANILA — A representative from 1PWD party-list said his group will lodge a formal complaint with the National Bureau of Investigation against the hosts of the Machong Chismisan podcast, citing insensitive remarks directed at people with disabilities.
Rep. JD Castro announced the planned action following backlash over comments made by the podcast's five male hosts regarding Joshua "Josh" Aquino, the eldest son of a prominent family. The remarks prompted swift criticism from disability rights advocates and members of the PWD community.
The 1PWD party-list represents the interests of persons with disabilities in Congress and has been vocal in defending the rights and dignity of the sector. The group's decision to escalate the matter to the NBI reflects the seriousness with which it views the podcast hosts' statements.
The complaint marks the latest incident involving public figures facing scrutiny over potentially discriminatory comments. Rights groups have increasingly called for greater sensitivity and respect toward marginalized communities, including persons with disabilities.
The NBI has not yet issued a statement on the expected complaint filing.
