PARIS — Novak Djokovic etched another chapter in his storied career on Tuesday, becoming the oldest player ever to win a match at the Paris Masters. The Serbian champion defeated Monaco's Valentin Vacherot 6-7(5) 7-5 6-1 in opening-round action at the prestigious indoor tournament.
Djokovic, a record seven-time Paris Masters champion, demonstrated his resilience by bouncing back after a tight opening set. After losing the first set in a tiebreaker, he took control of the match, claiming the second set before dominating the third to secure victory in two hours and 26 minutes.
The win maintains Djokovic's pursuit of a spot at the ATP Finals, where the world's top eight players compete in the season-ending championship. With his Paris campaign now underway, the 37-year-old continues his bid to extend his remarkable competitive longevity at the elite level of professional tennis.
Djokovic will next face either Australia's Alexei Popyrin or France's Gael Monfils in the second round of the tournament, which runs through November 3 at the Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy.
