DMK chief Stalin embraces tough reforms, acknowledges party performance gaps

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has initiated a significant organisational rejig, with party president M.K. Stalin framing the reforms as essential medicine for institutional health. Stalin stressed the importance of recognising and publicly admitting failures, asserting that such candour is crucial for strengthening the party's foundation.

Addressing the party's high-level executive committee, Stalin underscored that organisational decline stems from the performance shortcomings of individuals within the structure. The frank assessment marks a departure from typical party messaging and reflects efforts to address internal dissatisfaction and operational inefficiencies.

The executive committee formally adopted the organisational restructuring proposals, signalling the party's commitment to implementing the reform agenda. The overhaul is expected to affect various aspects of the party's functioning, from internal hierarchies to operational protocols.

The DMK's move comes as regional parties across South India increasingly focus on modernising their organisational structures to maintain relevance and effectiveness. For the ruling party in Tamil Nadu, the reforms are intended to strengthen its administrative capabilities and ensure more effective governance at both state and local levels.
