DMK Councillor Faces Case After Alleged Offensive Remarks Against Tamil Nadu CM

Chennai police on Monday registered a case against DMK councillor Sudha Dhina Dayalan for allegedly making offensive remarks directed at Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay during a party function. The incident occurred on October 7 at an event organised by the DMK's women's wing in the city.

According to the police complaint, Dayalan made disparaging comments about the chief minister during her address at the gathering. The exact nature of the remarks was not immediately disclosed by authorities, but they were deemed sufficiently objectionable to warrant legal action.

Beyond the councillor, Chennai police have also filed charges against Murali, identified as the event organiser, for his role in the matter. Both individuals face potential charges under relevant sections of Indian law pertaining to public conduct and statements made against public officials.

The case adds to ongoing political tensions in Tamil Nadu ahead of forthcoming elections. DMK, which currently holds power in the state, has faced criticism from rival parties and internal dissent in recent weeks. The development underscores the charged political atmosphere in the southern state, where high-profile incidents involving party functionaries have occasionally triggered police intervention.
