DMK files complaint against TVK candidate over poll spending violations

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has escalated its concerns about poll code violations, filing a complaint with Tamil Nadu's Chief Electoral Officer against a candidate from the Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar) TVK in the Dharapuram constituency.

DMK MLA S. Austin submitted the complaint to Chief Electoral Officer Archana Patnaik at the State Secretariat in Chennai, alleging that the TVK candidate has exceeded permissible campaign expenditure limits. The complaint underscores growing scrutiny of poll finance compliance during the ongoing electoral process in the state.

The Election Commission of India maintains strict expenditure ceilings for candidates to ensure a level playing field and prevent wealthy contestants from gaining disproportionate advantage through excessive spending. Violations can attract penalties and legal action against the candidate and their campaign machinery.

The complaint reflects intensifying political competition in Tamil Nadu, where multiple regional parties are contesting elections. The Chief Electoral Officer's office is expected to investigate the allegations and determine whether poll code provisions have been breached.
