Doctor arrested in Andhra Pradesh for alleged tramadol trafficking

Law enforcement officials in Andhra Pradesh's Eluru district have arrested a licensed medical doctor in connection with the unauthorized possession and distribution of tramadol, a prescription opioid medication. The arrest followed an investigation that uncovered 73 vials of the controlled substance in the doctor's possession.

Tramadol is a powerful analgesic medication used to treat moderate to severe pain and is classified as a Schedule H drug under Indian pharmaceutical regulations, restricting its sale and distribution. Unauthorized possession or trafficking in the drug can attract stringent penalties under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.

The seizure marks part of an ongoing crackdown by state authorities against the diversion of prescription medications into illegal channels.
