GEORGE TOWN — A two-storey semi-detached house in the Paya Terubong neighbourhood gave way in a landslide, claiming the life of a medical doctor whose body was subsequently recovered from the rubble by rescue personnel.
Authorities launched search and recovery operations at the residential property after the structure collapsed. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene following the retrieval of the remains from beneath the debris.
In response to the incident, local authorities initiated an evacuation of neighbouring properties as a safety precaution. Residents from surrounding homes were relocated while officials assessed the geological stability of the area and the potential risk of further ground movement.
The Paya Terubong landslide marks another instance of terrain instability in the region, prompting renewed concerns about building safety in hilly neighbourhoods across Penang. Authorities have not yet released formal statements regarding the cause of the collapse or the full extent of damage to surrounding structures.
Investigations into the incident remain ongoing as rescue teams continue to assess the affected area for any further hazards or casualties.
