Domestic violence cases in Malaysia surge 3.9% to nearly 7,400 in 2025

The Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development reported the sharp rise in domestic violence cases, signalling growing concerns over household safety across the nation. According to the ministry's latest figures, the 3.9% year-on-year increase reflects a persistent challenge facing Malaysian families and social welfare agencies.

Preliminary data showed 5,862 domestic violence cases had been recorded through September, indicating the acceleration continued through the latter months of 2025. The upward trajectory underscores the need for enhanced intervention strategies and support systems for affected individuals and families.

The statistics encompass various forms of domestic abuse, including physical, emotional and psychological violence within household settings. Authorities have emphasised the importance of reporting such incidents and accessing available support services, which include hotlines, shelters and counselling programmes operated by government and non-governmental organisations.

The ministry has indicated its commitment to addressing the issue through awareness campaigns and strengthened enforcement of existing laws protecting victims of domestic violence. Social welfare workers and community programmes continue to play a crucial role in identifying at-risk families and providing intervention support.
