A domestic worker was subjected to physical assault and unlawful restraint at her employer's home in Hardoi district, prompting authorities to register a criminal case. The incident occurred on September 30 at a residence in Nexra Colony, where the helper, identified as Upasana, allegedly faced abuse at the hands of her employer Akanksha and other family members.
According to initial reports, the assault was triggered by suspicions that the domestic worker had stolen items from the household. Rather than approaching law enforcement, the family members took matters into their own hands, allegedly restraining the worker and subjecting her to physical violence.
The case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code addressing criminal intimidation, wrongful restraint, and voluntarily causing hurt. Investigations are underway to establish the sequence of events and the exact nature of injuries sustained by the victim.
The incident underscores recurring concerns about the vulnerability of domestic workers in Indian households, who often lack formal employment protections and recourse mechanisms. Authorities have indicated that appropriate action will be taken based on the investigation findings.
