Donation platform Flipcause collapses, owing nonprofits $29 million

Flipcause, which positioned itself as a digital donation platform serving nonprofits across North America, filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection following months of mounting financial strain. The filing revealed the company owed approximately $29 million to more than 3,200 charitable organizations that had relied on the platform to process and distribute donor contributions.

Bankruptcy documents disclosed that despite the company's deteriorating financial position, Flipcause leadership made substantial payments totaling $3.8 million to executives, company relatives, and affiliated entities during the twelve months preceding the bankruptcy filing. This spending pattern intensified scrutiny from nonprofit partners who questioned how company resources were allocated.
