GENEVA — The Education Cannot Wait fund announced Thursday that donors had committed more than $400 million towards its education initiatives in conflict zones and disaster-stricken areas, marking a significant show of support for vulnerable children's learning opportunities.
The pledge represents a strong outcome for the UN-backed fund, reaching over 90 per cent of its fundraising target despite a challenging global environment marked by reduced aid commitments from many donor nations.
The funding is aimed at providing educational access and support to millions of children affected by wars, humanitarian crises and natural disasters across South and Southeast Asia and beyond. Education in emergency settings remains critical for child protection, psychosocial support and long-term development outcomes.
The result underscores continued international commitment to ensuring that education remains accessible even in the most difficult circumstances, with participating donors recognising the importance of investing in children's futures regardless of external economic pressures.
Education Cannot Wait was established to address the global education crisis affecting children in emergency and protracted crisis situations, serving as a pooled funding mechanism to scale up rapid response and support.
