Dortmund arrived at their home fixture as the Bundesliga's sole remaining undefeated side, having won all four matches so far this season. The Yellow and Blacks appeared on course to extend their perfect record when they took a commanding 2-0 lead through Daniel Svensson in the 80th minute and Nico Schlotterbeck five minutes later.
Bremen's Karl Hein produced an outstanding goalkeeping display to keep his side in contention throughout, frustrating Dortmund's attempts to break through for much of the match. The Bundesliga leaders' task became more complicated when they lost defender Amos Pieper to injury early in the first half.
In a dramatic final flourish, Bremen mounted an unlikely comeback that stunned the home crowd. Ludovit Reis halved the deficit with a low drive in the 87th minute before former Dortmund forward Niclas Fullkrug equalized with a header to seal a sensational 2-2 draw and end Dortmund's unbeaten streak.
In France's Ligue 1, Lens ended Lyon's unbeaten start to the season with a victory Friday, while in Spain, Malaga drew 1-1 at home to visiting Espanyol to remain without a win this campaign.
