CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro — The Department of Science and Technology has distributed more than P91 million in technology assistance to micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) throughout the Mimaropa region, comprising Occidental and Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan.
The initiative has benefited more than 1,200 local businesses across the five provinces, providing critical technological support aimed at improving productivity and strengthening enterprise operations in the region.
DOST Secretary Renato U. Solidum Jr. led efforts to extend the technology support program, underscoring the agency's commitment to fostering economic development in geographically dispersed regions. The assistance is designed to help smaller enterprises adopt modern technologies and business practices that enhance their competitive positioning in broader markets.
The Mimaropa region, historically reliant on agriculture and fishing sectors, has increasingly seen growth in small-scale manufacturing and service enterprises. The technology assistance program addresses gaps in digital adoption and technical capacity that often limit growth prospects for locally-based MSMEs.
Official details on the specific nature of technological support — whether comprising equipment, training, or digital platform access — remained pending further elaboration from DOST officials.
