MANILA — The Department of Transportation has prioritized expediting the construction of relocation sites for families affected by the North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) expansion, the agency announced Friday. The 147-kilometer railway system will eventually link Metro Manila with communities in Pampanga and Laguna provinces, significantly improving regional transportation connectivity.
The NSCR project represents one of the Philippines' most ambitious infrastructure initiatives aimed at easing congestion in the capital region and facilitating movement between major urban centers. The partial operation of the railway is scheduled to commence in 2028, with full implementation to follow.
The DOTr's accelerated timeline for completing relocation housing reflects growing attention to the needs of residents and businesses forced to vacate areas along the proposed rail corridor. Officials say the department is coordinating closely with local government units in Pampanga to ensure affected families receive appropriate resettlement options before construction advances further.
The North-South Commuter Railway is among several major transit projects currently under development across the Philippines as the government seeks to modernize aging transportation infrastructure and support economic growth in the sprawling metropolitan region.
