The Department of Transportation has committed to cooperating with the Office of the Ombudsman following the suspension of two high-ranking transportation officials. Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez stated that the DOTr respects the Ombudsman's decision to impose a six-month preventive suspension on the officials under investigation.
The Ombudsman's action centers on allegations involving P13 billion in additional fees. The suspended officials include the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board chief and the Unified Council for Transportation officials, according to the agency's directive.
Lopez's statement indicates the DOTr's willingness to participate fully in the Ombudsman's investigation into the matter. The department has assured the public that it remains committed to transparency and accountability in its operations.
The suspension represents a significant development in efforts to address concerns over transportation sector management and the collection of additional fees from operators and users. The investigation is expected to proceed over the coming months as both agencies work to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged financial discrepancies.
