MANILA — The Department of Transportation announced plans to increase train operations on the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) on Monday, November 2, as commuters return to the capital region after the extended Undas holiday period.
The DOTr said 19 trains would be deployed across the corridor to handle the anticipated surge in passenger traffic. The measure is part of the agency's contingency planning to maintain service reliability during peak travel periods following major holidays.
MRT-3 operates one of Metro Manila's busiest transit corridors, connecting the business districts of Makati and Ortigas with residential areas and transport hubs across the city. The line typically experiences heightened congestion in the days immediately following extended holidays as residents and workers resume regular commuting patterns.
The additional train deployment aims to reduce crowding and minimize delays as passengers transition back to their weekday routines. The DOTr's decision reflects ongoing efforts to optimize service frequency during periods of predictably high demand on the metropolitan rail system.
